Quarter Notes 1.2

To All Stillwater Band Parents,

Tickets are on sale for our October 30 Kaleidoscope Concerts!

You can order tickets by submitting the attached ticket form to the Activities office or by reserving by phone at 351-8208.

Each concert is 60 minutes in length.  Our Symphonic Band (Hour 1) will perform on the 6:30 concert.  Our Concert Band (Hour 2) will perform on the 8:00 PM concert.  All other ensembles (Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and the Stillwater Wind Symphony) will perform on BOTH concerts. Several of our jazz groups will perform in between the concerts from 7:30 – 8:00 PM.

Tickets are $5 for students and seniors, $7 for adults.  Our Family Tickets ($25) allow a combination for up to 8 tickets to be purchased for a family.

The ensembles are playing extremely well and both concerts will be a lot of fun for all ages.

A reminder that ticket sales are one of the ways that we fundraise for the band’s general fundraising. All profits from concert revenue go to the purchase of music and supplies. If you have any questions on our fundraising philosophy, please click here for more information.

Our dresses have arrived and our tuxes should be delivered after MEA. For our ensembles who do not wear tuxes or dresses, a reminder:  Students needing a red scarf or long red tie can purchase one on Fee Pay (SB/CB Concert Dress Accessories – $10).  Percussion Ensemble members can purchase their percussion ensemble shirt at Fee Pay as well ($20).  All students are expected to be dressed as stated in the dress policy shared at the beginning of the year.

We have started our use of the New Smart Music.  It is an amazing program that allows students to practice smarter.  Mr. Bryan and I are amazed at the depth and breadth of resources the new program has to offer.  To help you become familiar with what it can do, I have created a resource page Smart Music more information.
Smart Music came out very early in my career as a music educator.  I have watched it mature over the last 25 years into one of the best resources for young students to learn music.  I wish I had had this available when I was young.  It provides a wealth of music on screen, readily accessible for students to access.  I always tell our students we “play” music.  This program really makes practice “play”.

All band students at SAHS have access to the Teach level, which means they have the ability to access material we assign at any time as long as they are online.  To have full functionality of all premium material at home, students would need their own subscription, which is available for purchase on Fee Pay for $23 for a year subscription. Students who have already purchased through Fee pay will get their subscriptions before they leave for MEA.

Jazz Bands

Our jazz Xtets have been rehearsing and are sounding great! Our Big Bands will begin rehearsal this week. The Jazz Lab Band will meet on Wednesday morning from 6:55 – 7:30AM. The Stillwater Jazz Ensemble will rehearse from 2:30 – 3:45 PM on Tuesday.

Jazz Parents will have a separate email concerning jazz rehearsals and our upcoming trip to Appleton, WI.

Please consider signing up for our remind for the Stillwater Bands. Thank you to the 92 families who have already joined!

REMIND is a communication tool that allows you to receive quick updates or texts on your mobile device.  The Stillwater Bands will have a program wide Remind that parents and students can sign up for at the link below. Each ensemble will also have a Remind specific to that ensemble.  Information for individual ensemble reminds is available on their Schoology page.

Or text @sahsbands to 81010

Again, our website, stillwaterbands.net is the primary source of all the information for the Stillwater Bands.   Please consider following its blog (at the bottom of the page) to follow updates on this site.

We hope you are enjoying this wonderful October.  We look forward to seeing you all at our first concerts!
