Stillwater Percussion Ensemble Performance at the Sandy Feldstein National Percussion Festival March 6, 2014
The Stillwater Percussion Ensemble was established in 2002 to broaden the experiences of all percussionists in the Stillwater Bands. It is a full credit class that students from no musical experience to advanced percussionists can enroll. In this ensemble, students explore a wide range of musical genre that encompasses hand percussion, drumming circles, standard concert percussion and large keyboard and steel pan ensembles. The size of the ensemble is usually between 25-30 members.
The Stillwater Percussion Ensemble performs throughout the year in the community and each year at Minnesota State Solo Ensemble Contest, where they regularly achieve Best of Site ratings. In 2011, the Stillwater Percussion Ensemble was featured with the Stillwater Children’s choir on the Organization of American Kodaly Educators National Conference. In 2014, the Stillwater Percussion Ensemble was a feature performer at the Sandy Feldstein National Percussion Festival.
At the end of each school year, the Stillwater Percussion Ensemble produces the “Bang on a Drum” percussion ensemble concert. For this concert, all percussionists in the program join together performing a wide array of solo, small and large group literature.
