Concert Band Auditions
Auditions for placement in our top three auditioned band at SAHS will take place in March 1 – 14. Please sign up for an audition time at the link at Click Here.
Students new to SAHS can access Smart Music Audition materials by joining the Smart Music Class “2018-19 Band Auditions” using the code KZDYP-3GN3L. To access Smart Music,CLICK HERE and click on the button JOIN CLASS. You will be prompted to enter the code KZDYP-3GN3L and asked to either JOIN and LOGIN in (if you already are a Smart Music User) or Join and Create and account (if you are new to smart music).
After auditions, students will be placed in auditioned ensembles and schedules will be changed through the SAHS counseling department. All audition results will be posted at stillwaterbands.net on March 26, 2018. Student’s who audition after that date will be placed immediately after their audition.
- Scales – All students will be asked to play four scales. Scales will include two major scales and two natural minor scales, from any of the twelve keys. A minimum of one octave is required. Students wishing to play their scales more than one octave are strongly encouraged to do so.
- Prepared Solo – All students are expected to perform a solo of their choosing. It should not exceed three minutes in length and should demonstrate both musical and technical playing. Playing partial sections of a solo or etude is fine. Please, however, avoid playing excerpts from band music or a part from some other ensemble if possible. Using Smart Music as an accompaniment is highly encouraged.
- Two excerpts from repertoire currently performed in the Stillwater Wind Symphony will also be required. These excerpts will be posted on January 23. They must be submitted online through Smart Music by March 11. The required excerpts are already assigned to you in your current band class. Freshman auditioning for Concert Band do not need to submit excerpts.
- Sight-reading – All students will be given a short excerpt of sight reading. The sight- reading excerpts will be taken from Smart Music sight reading exercises.
